Lucknow: To provide good quality and affordable eye care to people in the state, Sitapur Eye Hospital Trust and Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai have joined forces to create UP-Sight.
The joint initiative was launched on Friday, with the goal of scaling up eye care delivery in the state, providing services to the community and developing a first ophthalmology training institute in the state.
Raja of Mehmoodabad, Mohammad Amir Mohammad Khan, the Chairman of the Trust, launched the initiative in the presence of Secretary Annu Tandon and Chief Medical Officer of the Eye Hospital, Dr Madhu Bhadauria.
Aravind Eye Care System President Dr. RD Ravindran, Operations Manager Thulasiraj Ravilla and Projects Manager Dr. S Aravind were also present.
Administrators from both hospitals, NGOs, representatives of ophthalmic equipment and pharmaceutical companies and local philanthropists were also present.
The new OPD block was inaugurated by Khan in memory of Dr. Prabha Mehra and Dr. MK Mehra.
The initiative aims to equip the hospital with the training and systems to perform 50,000 surgeries by the end of five years and 100,000 by 2030.
