Local ophthalmologists will offer care by appointment during the pandemic – Picayune Item

Advanced Eyecare in Picayune now offers access to emergency medical and emergency eye care services in an effort to relieve stress from local hospitals.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has closed until April 6, but beginning March 26, the business will be open with limited staff by appointment only Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jarrad Berry OD said he or Kraig Stasney OD will be available by appointment to treat a patient’s emergency optical disorders, such as those caused by glaucoma or macular degeneration. Also, as a number of people are now off work due to the pandemic, they may have injured their eye while working from home, Stasney said. Advanced Eyecare staff are also available to meet these emergency needs after the previously stated hours of operation.
All Advanced Eyecare staff will continue to use all Centers for Disease Control prevention methods, such as wearing gloves and masks, at all times when seeing a patient, Stasney said.
The two optometrists said they provide the service to the community to help reduce the number of people going to the emergency room for eye problems so medical staff can focus on more pressing health issues.
Anyone seeking eye care who may have symptoms of COVID-19 will be advised to seek medical attention at a hospital.
To book an appointment or get emergency eye care, call the office at 601-799-0707 and leave a message. Staff will check messages regularly, including weekends.
Advanced Eyecare is located at 5 Alex Place in Picayune.
