The 10th Street Eyecare Center recently announced the addition of new technology that allows it to offer a quick and painless treatment option for dry eye patients. The new MiBoFlo Thermoflo® equipment enables physicians and local optometric practice staff to provide long-lasting relief to symptoms that would otherwise only be treated temporarily.

“When people use re-wetting drops or artificial tears, it may treat the symptoms but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem,” said Dr Sarah Stueder. “For many people, the root of the problem may be clogged meibomian glands, or the sebaceous glands that line your eyelids. So what Miboflo does is it heats up the oil and can unclog the sebaceous glands. .

MiBoFlo Thermoflo uses a proprietary thermoelectric heat pump operated by a technician. The technician uses a small metal paddle and gel to gently massage the eyelid to warm the sebaceous glands and clear any blockages. Patients using this new treatment can expect three 10-15 minute sessions, with a potential maintenance plan thereafter.

“Common symptoms of dry eyes are red eyes, gritty eyes, and watery eyes,” Dr. Stueder said. “Anyone interested in this new treatment can find out more on our website (www.10thstreeteyecare.com), or we’d be happy to set up an appointment to talk to you about your symptoms and see if it’s right for you.” ”
